Mandarin Garden is a family-run Chinese restaurant that has been serving authentic Chinese food in the Concord area for 30+ years. Chef Ruey (Ray) Wang has single-handedly cooked every dish over that period of time, following the same recipes he learned growing up in China from his father and perfecting it over the years. He prides himself in hand-selecting the majority of the produce, protein, and ingredients used in his dishes every Saturday morning.
While Ruey does all the prep and cooking in the kitchen, his wife, Shirley, handles everything in the front of the house. Taking orders, serving food, receiving phone calls, and cleaning tables. It’s amazing how 1 couple with minimal staff are able to handle an entire restaurant.
As for the food, whether you prefer westernized Chinese food like Orange Chicken or Mongolian Beef, or something traditional like a black bean sauce with hand-pulled noodles (jajangmyeun), or my personal favorite the friedchicken wings (Mandarin Chicken), you can always expect high quality and fresh dishes. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant has been staying busy thanks to their loyal customers continuing to come by for take-out orders. Next time you are passing through Concord near Monument Blvd, stop by Mandarin Garden to pick up some lunch or dinner!
